Dana - The Paramita of Generosity

In modern usage, the Sanskrit word dana has come to mean a donation of money, usually offered as a sort of entrance fee to a teaching or event. But dana means generosity, in all its forms. Not clinging to resources, wealth, and pride are generosity. Not harboring anger is generous. Rejoicing in another's happiness is generous. Giving time and attention is generous. Mentoring and supporting are generous.

Generosity is a practice and quality cultivated in the Dharma from day one up to the highest levels because it cuts the craving and delusion that lead to suffering. Generosity is the antidote for self-centeredness. Generosity supports every worthwhile project. Generosity overcomes poverty and need. Generosity sustains life itself.

Join us on March 5 and March 19 to explore and reflect on the practice of generosity.
