Daylong: Calm Abiding and Clear Seeing

Hybrid (In-Person & Online)

June 27 Day of Practice: Calm Abiding, Clear Seeing, and Mahamudra

9:00 AM to 3:00 PM

In person at heart of Wisdom Temple in Portland, and Online

"No freedom without insight. No insight without stability."

The two basic meditation methods in the Kagyu tradition are Calm Abiding and Clear Seeing.

Calm abiding (shamatha or shinay) is the stability of being present in one’s experience. Clear seeing (vipashyana or lhatong) is the insight that frees us from the confusion that is the root of conflicting emotions and suffering. The ultimate fruition of calm abiding and clear seeing is the Great Seal (mahamudra).

In this day of practice, we’ll explore basic techniques and common pitfalls, and through practice and discussion, we’ll clarify the prerequisites for establishing an effective daily practice. Open to beginners and experienced students alike.
